Dubai Emirate wants to get another" high-tech " attraction-the world's largest vertical farm, a tower-garden. A joint project, Emirates Flight Catering and Silicon Valley-Crop One involves the construction of buildings with a usable area of 12,000 sq. m. For comparison, the current Champions in this field — FarmedHere area of 8400 sq. m. in Chicago, Aerofarms in new Jersey with an area of 6400 sq. m. the Highlight of the project is that the building has an unprecedented level of automation and autonomy. In particular, there is control over each milliliter of a substance used in the treatment of soil and plants. Therefore, you can do without herbicides and pesticides, plus water consumption will be reduced to 1% of the norm for a similar field in the open air. This will allow growing such volume of production, which usually requires 360 hectares of fields. There are no emissions into the environment, and therefore the construction can be built anywhere without violating environmental standards. The farm tower will be erected right next to the airport to allow fresh vegetables and herbs to be brought on Board the aircraft from the garden in a few minutes. Only passengers of Emirates Airlines will be able to taste them, but trade in products in the future is not excluded – according to estimates, the harvest will reach 2700 kg per day.
Construction will begin in November 2018, and the first harvest is expected to collect by December 2019.
